One of Sheffield’s most prominent local politicians is joining You-Are-The-Ref to combine two of her great passions – sport and organising!

The city’s former Lord Mayor, Cllr Denise Fox, has joined the stellar line-up at the internationally-acclaimed website with immediate effect – and can’t wait to get started.

“This is a really wonderful and exciting opportunity for me as You-Are-The-Ref reflects so many of my views and aspirations,“ she said. “It is so much more than a website which simply analyses and encourages referees, it safeguards traditions and it fights for the rights of everyone – youngsters through to veterans – who are involved in sport."

Cllr Fox was installed as the city’s 120th Lord Mayor - and only the 17th female – in May of last year and has served Sheffield’s Birley ward since 2005.

Working alongside the likes of Mark Clattenburg, Mark Halsey, Keith Hackett and Roger Dilkes, Cllr Fox will have responsibility for a wide range of YATR’s “off-field“ activities including managing the online Academy’s members’ benefits and the commercial affairs of the not-for-profit Youdan Trophy.

Born and raised in Sheffield, Cllr Fox moved to Attercliffe aged seven and attended Huntsman Gardens Infant and Junior School. At the age of 15 her family moved to Fox Hill and the following year she began her working life in the offices of Neepsend Tools. She married fellow councillor Terry Fox in 1981 and has two grown-up children, Natalie and Jordon.

“Denise will bring with her a wealth of experience across many different fronts,“ said Keith Hackett. “As You-Are-The-Ref continues to grow and expand it is absolutely imperative that we continue to swell our ranks with people who fully understand what it is we do, what it is we are all about and what it is we are striving to achieve.“
