Sheffield United youngster Joe Green was injured in the U14 Youdan Trophy Final, suffering a double fracture after a clash with his own player. The incident happened with minutes to spare with opponents Sunderland leading 2-1.
Youdan Trophy Tournament Director Dean Mohareb was delighted that the young Blades midfielder Joe Green was discharged from hospital just two days after the incident: “I have this morning been in touch with Martyn (Joe’s dad) and Joe is being discharged from hospital today (06/08).
"The operation appears to have been a success and Joe will be monitored closely by the club and medical experts and it is hoped that he will be back playing in 4-6 months."
Joe Green's day Martyn added: "Joe's first day with the physio at Sheffield Children's Hospital was today,  one day after his operation.
"He's now home and on the journey to recovery which will be around 4 to 6 months, many thanks to all the people who've asked about him."
The game was abandoned and it was agreed by both teams that the score would remain at 2-1, with The Black Cats going on to be crowned champions.
